A great deal of the research regarding faculty development in higher education has identified peer mentoring as an important component of ongoing informal development. In the past, FDI has attempted to provide this opportunity by incorporating "Faculty Guest Speakers" into many of our tracks. Our guest speakers provided FDI participants with the opportunity to speak with a colleague who has already been through the process of incorporating technology into his/her instruction. Participants also received an overview of "real-life" instructional technology applications grounded and framed by pedagogical theory.

Our speakers have always spoken frankly about a wide variety of issues, including problems encountered, the true time investment (both in development and delivery), pedagogical concerns, copyright issues, changes to the student-professor relationship, and support avenues available on our campus. Many other issues have been discussed as well.

This summer, FDI is continuing to expand the role of our Faculty Guest Speaker to include individual, one-on-one consultation sessions.
