This short course is the first in a series of three 3-hour short courses on creating database-driven web sites that will be offered by FDI during the spring 2006 semester. Because an understanding of HTML is required to be able to accurately insert PHP and SQL commands into web pages, this series of short courses will begin with an overview of HTML and related skills. Participants will gain a bird's eye view of web applications and learn how to setup their development environment (using WebDrive and Dreamweaver). An overview of HTML will be provided with special attention being placed on tags that tend to have PHP imbedded within them. An introduction to form tags will be given which will enable participants to create textfields, radio buttons, etc. Finally, PHP will be introduced. PHP topics include the PHP tag, echo command, PHP syntax, simple math and text manipulation. Hands-on activities will be an important part of this session.
