  Workshop Description

Are you familiar with basic web page creation with Dreamweaver 8 and would like to learn how to further extend the capabilities of your web site? Topics central to Dreamweaver 8 (Part Three) are cascading style sheets (CSS) and creating and working with templates. By using CSS and templates, it becomes easy to give your web site a consistent overall design and layout. Further, these strategies make it easy for you to change repeated content across multiple web pages, even on exceptionally large web sites. The integration of multimedia elements will also be demonstrated, and hands-on activities will be an integral part throughout. Bring a zip or floppy disk so you can take your creations with you once this workshop is over.

Workshop Assumptions:
1. Participants will have participated in the Dreamweaver 8 (Part One & Two) courses or have similar experience.
2. Participants should have a good working knowledge of web page creation and uploading files to servers.

Workshop Objectives:
1. Explain what Cascading Style Sheets are and demonstrate how they can aid in overall site design.
2. Offer hands-on opportunities for participants to create stylesheets and Dreamweaver templates.
3. Show how stylesheets and templates can be used in tandem to easily alter the design of a large, multi-paged website.
4. Time permitting: Demonstrate how to incorporate external Javascript files which, like stylesheets and templates, can be used to influence the appearance of webpages sitewide.

Instructional Outcomes:

1. Participants will know what Cascading Style Sheets and Dreamweaver templates are and how to develop them.
2. Participants will know how to use basic CSS and templates to alter the overall look and feel of their websites.
3. Time permitting: Participants will learn how to set up a reusable Javascript module which will insert a random image into an existing page.
