  Workshop Description  
   
  Are you ready to begin using technology to help you manage and calculate student grades? This short course will provide participants with a hands-on survey of the most commonly used features of Microsoft Excel. While the skills taught during this session can be used for a number of different purposes, the instructional approach will be the creation and management of a gradebook. Specific skills taught will include entering and storing data, calculations and formulas, data presentation and print, creating charts and graphs, etc. Participants are encouraged to bring their own class roster; this will enable them to create a gradebook for one of their own courses during this short course.

Workshop Assumptions:
. Participants will have a basic knowledge of Microsoft programs and menus.
. Participants are familiar with basic computer tasks, such as typing, mouse operation, right clicking, opening and closing files and programs.

Workshop Objectives:
Participants will leave the workshop with the skills necessary to build, maintain, and present a spreadsheet-powered grade book.

Instructional Outcomes:
Following this workshop, participants will be able to:
• Describe the basic functions of spreadsheet software
• List relevant applications of spreadsheet in teaching and learning
• Store data in an Excel spreadsheet
    a. Enter data in cells
    b. Move around efficiently in a spreadsheet
    c. Insert and/or delete data, cells and worksheets
    d. Format data in a spreadsheet
    e. Sort and/or filter data
• Use formulas and functions to calculate values
    a. Write formulas by using basic arithmetic operators
    b. Use basic calculation functions
    c. Fill formulas to more cells
    d. Use absolute and relative cell referencing
    e. Use IF statement to assign letter grades
• Print data of selection from a spreadsheet
• Create charts and graphs
