  Workshop Description  
   
  Have you wanted to learn how to create more effective classroom and conference presentations? This short course is intended for those who are new to PowerPoint or have only utilized its most basic features. Sound PowerPoint design principles will be provided as will strategies that decrease your time investment with the software and increase your focus on your content. Text, image, sound, and movie insertions will be demonstrated as will advanced custom animations and transitions. After the session, participants will be able to analyze good and bad PowerPoint presentations, utilize advanced PowerPoint capabilities (transition, animation, and audio/video insertions), and export PowerPoint slides to various formats (print, WORD, PDF, and webpage). Hands-on activities will be an integral part of this session.

Workshop Assumptions:
. Participants will have a basic knowledge of Microsoft programs and menus.
. Participants will have prior skill in navigating through a computer screen, using a mouse and a keyboard.
. Participants will have basic knowledge of opening new files and navigating to existing files.

Workshop Objectives:
. Discuss appropriate uses and applications, for both instructor and student, of PowerPoint presentations.
. Discuss design and layout issues associated with effective presentations.
. Introduce basic and advanced features of the program.
. Discuss tips for more effective and efficient design and presentation.
. Determine major differences between good and poor presentations.
. Practice development of presentations, save in multiple formats, produce handouts and notes.
. Introduce additional resources and help options for future use.

Instructional Outcomes:
. Participants will be able to design effective PowerPoint presentations with appropriate design elements.
. Participants will be able to add video, audio, web links, animation effects and slide transitions.
. Participants will be able to create an interactive presentation.
. Participants will be able to save, print and publish their presentation in a variety of formats.
. Participants will be aware of help and additional resources for future use.
