Made possible by the College of Engineering, this short course brings renowned speaker and futurist Dr. Joel N. Orr to Virginia Tech for an intimate faculty development engagement. Joel specializes in engineering automation and computer technologies and heads Orr Associates International, a consulting firm. Very early on, he was struck by the suitability of the tablet for engineering and architectural professionals, and his early interest quickly bloomed into a conviction regarding the future of tablet PCs in these and other professions.
During this session, Joel will speak on the potential of the Tablet PC to enable student engagement in ways that were previously only imagined. In addition to detailing how the unique attributes of the Tablet PC facilitate learning engineering topics, he will also explore emerging cognitive tools such as concept/mind-mapping software and visualization software, both of which can be utilized to facilitate student collaboration and have implications for many disciplines. Anyone who has recently adopted the Tablet PC or is considering it in the future will find this short course to be exceptionally thought-provoking and valuable.
