University Relations is offering a symposium intended for anyone at Virginia Tech that maintains or contributes to university web sites. Web developers and webmasters will find this symposium to be of particular interest. This four-hour session will begin by covering the website redevelopment process. KJ analysis, mental models / site architecture, and wireframes will be topics of discussion. These are key strategies for anyone preparing to redesign a web site. The next topic will focus on how to implement the new university web templates which are intended to create a "family look and feel" to Virginia Tech web sites. Branding architecture and utilizing those templates will be key areas of discussion. Further, lessons on how to customize those templates will be part of this overview, and suggestions intended to help minimize the "cookie-cutter" look will be provided. Success stories and best practices from those that piloted this process and have utilized these templates will also be included. In addition, updates regarding other Virginia Tech web projects will be discussed. The first of these is the enterprise CMS. The value of this new system will be detailed and a demonstration will be provided. Those that wish to use this CMS will learn how to become involved. Updates concerning MyVT and VT Search will also be included in this symposium. To aid in our planning, those interested in attending are encouraged to register prior to October 27th.
