Ed Schwartz began his career as an Instructional Designer at the University of Delaware and as the Instructional Designer for the Award-winning Videodisc Music Series. He has been an Instructional Designer at Virginia Tech since 1988.

In particular, Ed focuses on technology in music instruction. As part of this interest, he is the co-creator of the Virginia Tech Music Dictionary (which is used internationally). He has been involved with numerous professional organizations such as AECT, MENC, ADCIS, EDUCAUSE, and The New Media Centers Consortium.

The one thing that Ed would like to bring to all of his FDI courses is the practical use of these technologies in teaching. He wants to do everything that he can to save faculty time in their use of technology and help them become more efficient with technology.

Ed is very active in the local arts community with the Blacksburg Community Band and Summer Musical Enterprise. He also performs with the Riverboat Ramblers, the Sauerkraut Band, Bog Dog and the Fat Cats, the Bedford Community Orchestra, and the SRO Big Band.
