| Eddie Watson's professional interests center upon the diffusion of innovations and change theory as it relates to higher education. Faculty Development as one mechanism through with innovations are diffused and supported within higher ed is central to his research focus. Hall's Concerns-based Adoption Model, as implemented in Faculty Development, relies upon interaction between faculty and those supporting their exploration and adoption of new teaching practice and technology. This is foundational to Eddie's professional approach within FDI. In addition to his interests in technology adoption, Eddie is also interested in the instructional strategies that are supported by instructional technology. It is his belief that certain strategies, such as small group discussions, can be better facilitated and assessed in web-based and/or technology-supported environments. Eddie's approach to technology is always, first, to determine appropriate instructional strategies for a given learning outcome, and then to determine if technology provides a better way to implement that strategy. To that goal, he is also intrigued by emerging technologies (Scholar, ePortfolio, blogs, podcasting, etc.) and the promise they may hold for teaching and learning in higher education. | |
