Introduction to Desktop Computing

Demonstration of computer operating system tips and techniques for desktop computing. This workshop series is designed to improve your daily computer usage.

Prerequisite: None;

Introduction to Desktop Computing


Workshop Assumptions:
  1. Participants should have a need to use their computer more effectively.
  2. Participants have had no fomal computer training.

Workshop Objectives:
  1. Describe the basic functionality of a computer operating system (Macintosh or Windows).
  2. Demonstrate the configuration options of a computer operating system (Macintosh or Windows).
  3. Provide hands-on sessions in several critical areas of computer configuration (Macintosh or Windows).
  4. Discuss basic file management.
  5. Explore back-up and optional storage media options.

Instructional Outcomes:
  1. Participants will be able to describe the basic interface of desktop computing (Macintosh or Windows).
  2. Participants will be able to manage their files through the use of folders and sub-folders (Macintosh or Windows).
  3. Participants will be able to save their files to the correct folders (Macintosh or Windows).
  4. Participants will be able to employ several strategies in finding "lost" files (Macintosh or Windows).
  5. Participants will be able to configure several aspects of their desktop appearance.
  6. Participants will know how to get more assistance with their decktop computing needs (Macintosh or Windows)..
