Introduction to Web Objects and Interaction

1 pixel Are you looking for strategies to increase the interaction of your students in a web-based environment? This short course will provide an overview of the types of media that can be utilized to create and increase student-to-student, student-to-instructor, and student-to-content interaction. Hands-on demonstrations of interactive software, including survey.vt.edu, forum.vt.edu, AOL IM, HTML forms, Flash objects, QTVR, and more will be provided. Practical advice will be given regarding creation techniques, support options, and true time investment.

Prerequisite: Knowledge of the Web; Skill level: Basic

Workshop Assumptions:
  1. Participants will have a working knowledge of basic web page design and construction.
  2. Participants will have viewed several instructional web sites in their discepline.

Workshop Objectives:
  1. Define, contrast, and demonstrate Media Elements and Objects.
  2. Provide solutions for faculty to obtain assistance in the development of media objects.

Instructional Outcomes:
  1. Participants will be able to identify objects and elements to add to their web pages.
  2. Participants will be able to make better choices in adding objects and elements to their web pages.

Index of Content

Media Elements are things that are directly contained in an HTML document. Media Elements would consist of TEXT and some graphic elements such as the <HR> command (Horizontal Rule) and TABLES with the ability to position information on the page and show or hide its borders.

Media Objects are things that show up on the web page, but are created in another application and are embedded in the HTML document through the <embed> command or the <img src=> command.Here are some examples.
