Are
you thinking of buying a digital camera in the near future or do you
already own one and would like to make better use of it? This short
course is intended for both audiences. This session will offer three
foci: selecting and using a digital camera, importing and touching
up images using Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0, and a review of issues
and concerns associated with printing photographs and preparing them
for the web. Topics of discussion will include best practices for
photography, picture size and resolution, exposure, imaging resizing
and correction, online printing options, and more. The presenter will
also offer his recommendations concerning best models of digital cameras
and photo printers. Hands-on activities will be a hallmark of this
session.
1. Participants already have a digital camera or are considering the purchase of a digital camera.
2. Participants have a basic, working knowledge of recent releases of Windows and/or Macintosh operating systems.
3. Participants have a desire to learn more than just the "point and shoot" of digital imaging.
1. Provide an overview of recent developments in the digital camera market.
2. Describe a few of the benefits and/or drawbacks of some of the more reputable digital cameras.
3. Provide hands-on opportunities for participants to take digital photos, upload images to a computer, and learn basic editing techniques with Photoshop Elements (PC/Mac) and/or iPhoto (Mac).
4. Give a brief summary of online digital printing services and storage providers.
5. Discuss some of the issues surrounding the printing of digital images online or at home with an ink-jet photo printer.
1. Participants will have a basic understanding of the features (or lack thereof) of an assortment of today's digital cameras.
2. Participants will be able to transfer digital images from camera to computer.
3. Participants will be able to improve the appearance of their digital photos using Photoshop Element's basic editing techniques.
4. Participants will be able to create an optimized and reduced-resolution image suitable for use on the web or transfer via email.
5. Participants will have a good working knowledge of digital imaging-related online resources (photo storage & printing.)
6. Participants will know of both the advantages and limitations of using an ink-jet printer to print digital photos.
