iMovie: Editing Digital Video for Instruction (for Mac users)

  Workshop Description  
  Do you have video that you would like to edit and present to your students? This short course will be almost entirely hands-on and will put all participants in front of a video editor (iMovie). iMovie is the free, video editing software that comes standard on Macintosh computers. Participants will learn to use iMovie to capture, edit, and export video as well as the concepts and skills needed to successfully approach the video editing process. This session can be seen as a companion to FDI's "Video Production: Planning and Shooting Digital Video" short course.

Participant Assumptions:
1. Participants should have a basic knowledge of Apple products, programs and functions.
2. Participants should have prior knowledge and/or experience shooting digital video and pictures.

Workshop Objectives:
1. Introduce iMovie HD.
2. Discuss educational applications and provide sample student work.
3. Demonstrate functions of iMovie HD including importing video, importing images, trimming clips, audio, video effects, titles and credits.
4. Introduce new features of iMovie HD.
5. Practice video production, editing and publishing.

Instructional Outcomes:
1. Participants will recognize the iMovie interface and functions.
2. Participants will capture and import video, pictures and audio.
3. Participants will edit and modify movie projects to include video effects, transitions, music and titles or credits.
4. Participants will save and export movie projects and slideshows in a variety of formats.
