  Workshop Description
Have you heard about Podcasting and wonder if it could hold value for you in the courses you teach?  This short course will provide participants with everything they need to know to begin their own podcast.  In addition to defining key concepts and related terminology, this short course will provide an overview of the ways in which podcasting is being used in higher education and beyond.  An exploration of the technologies used to create podcasts will be a key component of this session, and participants will leave this session with knowledge concerning the podcasting support resources on campus.  Special emphasis will be placed on podcasting strategies that do NOT require all students in a course to own an Apple iPod.

Workshop Assumptions:
1. Participants will have prior experience with the WindowsXP and/or Macintosh OS X operating systems.
2. Participants should have a basic knowledge of web page creation and uploading files to servers.
3. Participants should have some knowlege of digital audio and how to create sound files.

Workshop Objectives:
1. Define and "demystify" the concepts of podcasting and RSS (Real Simple Syndication).
2. Provide an easy-to-follow checklist of the podcasting workflow.
3. Give a brief overview and demonstration of Apple iTune's podcasting and podcatching features.
4. Demonstrate how one can easily create a podcast using free software tools.
5. Discuss how other academic institutions are employing podcasts in higher education.

Instructional Outcomes:

1. Participants will have a basic understanding of podcasting and how to create a podcast.
2. Participants will be familiar with the Apple iTunes application and its significance for podcasting.
3. Participants will be aware of freely available software and online resources that aid in the creation of a podcast.
