Video Production: Planning and Shooting Digital Video

  Workshop Description  
  Are you looking for guidance and assistance as you begin to incorporate video into your instruction? This short course will provide participants with a start to finish overview of what is involved with video production for instructional purposes. Participants will be given strategies to ensure success from the planning stages forward. Topics will include field production, story boarding, media integration, editing programs, file formats, filming techniques, and support resources available to faculty on campus who wish to create video for instruction.

Workshop Assumptions:
1. Participants should have an interest in digital video and/or a desire to begin a digital video project.

Workshop Objectives:
1. Present a brief overview of video.
2. Discuss the planning considerations of digital video production.
3. Discuss the considerations of digital content delivery (Web, CD, DVD).
4. Review and demonstrate current Internet video formats.
5. Review available resources for high-quality digital content production.
6. Identify campus video resources.

Instructional Outcomes:
1. Participants should have an understanding of digital video and its inherent limitations.
2. Participants should be able to identify the major strengths and weaknesses in digital content delivery.
3. Participants should have knowledge of what steps need to be taken to ensure high-quality output.
4. Participants should be familiar with current Internet delivery formats.
5. Participants will have contact and supplemental information to allow them to begin digital video projects at Virginia Tech.
6. Participants should be familiar with current DVD resources available to them.
