Track D Assumptions,
Educational Objectives, and Instructional Outcomes
Track Assumptions:
- Participants are able to point and click using a mouse.
- Participants have a working knowledge of word processing.
- Participants have a basic understanding of the World Wide Web.
- Participants have visited instructional sites on the World Wide
Web.
- Participants have accomplished searches for information on the World
Wide Web.
- Participants understand the client/server model of interaction on
the Internet.
- Participants have created web pages and have used either HTML or
a web page creation tool.
Educational Objectives:
- Overview of the basic concepts on which the internet is built.
- Provide, through the Instructional Portal, a framework for developing
instructionally sound sites.
- Define and provide examples of the basic elements used to construct
web pages.
- Describe and demonstrate the basics of good web page design and
provide strategies for participants to incorporate these design features
in their own web content.
- Provide hands-on opportunities for participants to create image,
HTML, and pdf files which can be used in their own courses, for increased
interaction with or by students.
- Define "Learning Management Systems" and outline how they will impact
all participants' instruction in the upcoming year.
- Describe and demonstrate advanced web interaction tools and offer
strategies for managing this interaction.
- Provide training and access to the CourseInfo server for possible
use in the workshop and for their current and future classes.
- Provide resources and follow-up for the participants to support
the development of web content in their classes and individual projects.
Instructional Outcomes:
- Participants will be able to create well constructed web (HTML)
pages using Dreamweaver.
- Participants will be able to create and edit PDF files.
- Participants will be able to upload their HTML, PDF, and image files
to a location on the CourseInfo server (i.e. place materials on the
web).
- Participants will be able to use CourseInfo assessment tools which
allow for student quizzing and surveys.
- Participants will be able to use CourseInfo Quiz and utilize the
online gradebook.
- Participants will be able to use CourseInfo communication tools
which allow for instructor/student, student/instructor, and student/student
interaction.
- Participants will be able to access a web site containing support
information and resources on CourseInfo and other course delivery
options.
- Participants will be able to create and manage listservs, filters,
mailboxes, and their address book using their E-Mail client.
- Participants will be able to locate many of the instructional technology
resources available on Virginia Tech's campus.
- Participants will be able to understand how web content and CourseInfo
modules can work together to enhance an existing course.
