Peggy directs a variety of faculty development programs at Virginia Tech with a particular interest in increasing the participation of women and underrepresented minorities in academic science and engineering careers. She is particularly interested in the careers of women in engineering. Her most recent assignment is implementing Virginia Tech's electronic faculty activity reporting system (EFARS).
Peggy joined Virginia Tech in 2003 as director of the AdvanceVT program. She previously worked as a diversity consultant for the American Association of Engineering Societies and as director of the program on diversity in the engineering workforce at the National Academy of Engineering. Peggy is a registered professional engineer with degrees in environmental and water resources engineering, and worked for 17 years as an environmental engineering consultant. She spent a year as an AAAS Congressional Fellow sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers and served as president of the Society of Women Engineers in 1996-97. Outside of Virginia Tech, she enjoys singing in the Blacksburg Master Chorale.
